Changes in Education Start with Innovations ‘from Below’
On June 5th, the results of the Competition of Innovations in Education (KIVO–2018) were announced. The competition was organized by the HSE Institute of Education together with the Rybakov Fund. Out of 503 applications, the jury selected 28 projects. Their authors will take part in an innovation accelerator summer school, which will take in Moscow in late June. The competition finals will be held in autumn.

From 14th to 30th of May we hosted a group from University of Dayton, Ohio, that came to participate in the programme ‘Tolstoy’s Russia’ and to learn more about the past and present of our country.
HSE Opens Joint Department with SAS
The joint department with SAS at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science aims to support educational programmes in data analysis and enrich teaching and learning with business expertise. The Higher School of Economics is the first Russian university to have founded a joint department with SAS.
HSE the Only Russian University in THE Young Universities Ranking
The HSE has climbed to 84th position in the Young Universities Times Higher Education Ranking. The ranking assesses universities that were founded less than 50 years ago according to methodology used in the main THE ranking, which is published in autumn.
HSE Climbs in QS World University Rankings
HSE has climbed almost 40 places in the QS World University Rankings and now occupies 343rd place among the world's best universities. This is thanks to a significant improvement in its academic reputation and the employers' assessment of university graduates.
Double Degree Bachelor’s Programmes Launched at HSE St. Petersburg
HSE University – St. Petersburg and University of Rome Tor Vergata (TVU) have launched two Double Degree Bachelor’s programmes in International Business and Management Studies and Political Science and World Politics.
HSE Teams Take Top Prizes at International Criminal Moot Court
On May 31, the final round of the Russian-speaking ICC (International Criminal Court) Moot Court Competition took place in The Hague. Student teams from HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow campuses came second and third respectively, and a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Law in Nizhny Novgorod received the ‘Best Speaker’ award.
First PhD at HSE Received under New Procedure
On May 22, the first thesis for an HSE PhD degree was defended. Following the new procedure, mathematician Pavlo Gavrylenko defended his thesis on isomonodromic deformations and quantum theory. This took place not before a big dissertation council, but a committee of experts in this particular field of mathematical physics.
MIEM HSE Students Have Become Overall Winners of KubanCTF-2018
Students of Computer Security at MIEM HSE have become the overall winners in the National conference competition in practical information security KubanCTF-2018. The competition took place on May 4 and 5 in Krasnodar, and attracted 48 teams from Russian universities.
HSE Partners with Samsung to Open IoT Samsung Academy
HSE and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement to jointly implement the ‘IoT Samsung Academy’ programme. As part of this agreement, MIEM will start teaching specialists in the Internet of Things (IoT) from September 2018.
