Together with his colleagues, Igor Kukushkin, Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Solid State Physics (Russian Academy of Sciences) and Professor at the Faculty of Physics at the Higher School of Economics, has founded two scientific-commercial enterprises. Their products are used in a range of areas, including pharmaceuticals and medicine, as well as to control the quality of various materials and even in the fight against terrorism. Igor Kukushkin spoke to the HSE news service about how to combine science and business.
Igor Bunin Dies at 72
Igor Mikhailovich Bunin, historian, political scientist, President of the Centre for Political Technologies, Head of the Joint Department with Centre for Political Technologies at HSE Faculty of Social Sciences, and one of the pioneers of Russian political technologies, passed away on Saturday, May 12. He was 72.

The Keepers of the Ruble
Post-Soviet life and the economic ups and downs of recent years have changed the attitude of Russians towards saving. Now, it is not the less fortunate who save, but the more intelligent, according to Elena Berdysheva and Regina Romanova. At HSE’s recent XIX April International Academic Conference, researchers explained how Russians adjusted and optimized family budgets following the crisis of 2014-2017 and how this relates to gender issues.
MIEM HSE Student Wins Apple WWDC Scholarship
Artur Davletshin, fourth-year student in Informatics and Computer Hardware and Software at MIEM HSE (supervisor Aleksandr Romanov, Associate Professor at the School of Computer Engineering) has won a scholarship for the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Artur will attend the WWDC in San Jose, California, from June 4 – 8.

The Higher School of Economics has climbed to 32nd place in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Rankings, improving its previous position by 16 places.

HSE Creates Department of Financial Market Infrastructure with the Support of Moscow Exchange
HSE and Moscow Exchange are founding a joint Department of Financial Market Infrastructure at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. It will bring together HSE lecturers and Moscow Exchange staff. Students will be offered new courses and will also have the opportunity to participate in project work and undertake internships at the Exchange.
Student Winners to Research Cheating in Online Courses
HSE has announced the winners of the Academicus Modus competition of student projects. They will receive a year-long grant for their research, the results of which will be published in an academic journal.

HSE Recognized for Best Practice in Monitoring Quality of Education
The HSE Student Council Committee on Education Quality has won the title ‘Best project aimed at monitoring the quality of educational services’. The national competition assesses student activities which aim to improve the quality of education and is organized by the Russian Union of Youth, together with Rosobrnadzor (government agency supervising educational institutions) and the Russian Association of Students and Student Organisations.
