On December 19, the atrium of the HSE Pokrovka building hosted the ‘HSE Is the World’ festival, which brought together over 20 student cultural clubs and associations. Their representatives told the participants about the winter holiday traditions of various nationalities, ran quizzes, and held games. The event was organised by the HSE Department of Internationalisation.
Artificial Intelligence as a Driver of Digital Transformation
In December, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge and the HSE AI Research Centre participated in UNCTAD eWeek to discuss the future of the emerging digital economy. One of the topics discussed during the conference was artificial intelligence and its applications in driving the digital transformation of industry sectors. In December, HSE University launched its first concept store—the HSE ART AND DESIGN STORE (part of the HSE Art and Design School). MIEM and HSE Design School Meet with Indonesian Game Dev Representatives
In December, the Indie Go space hosted a meeting with representatives of Indonesia’s game development industry. Colleagues from the ‘Game Engineering and Interactive Systems’ workshop of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) and the HSE Art and Design School learned about the intricacies of the Indonesian game industry and told the visitors about their own projects.
HSE Student Develops Platform for Online Physical Training
A student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and a team of like-minded people have created Fora.Vision, a startup platform for conducting remote physical training lessons in schools and universities. The computer vision-based system automatically counts the number of completed exercises and displays students’ progress in the teacher's personal account.
Crypto Investors Receive Downside Risk Premiums
Victoria Dobrynskaya, Assistant Professor at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, has analysed the price dynamics of 2,000 cryptocurrencies from 2014 to 2021 and investigated the association between downside risks and average returns in the cryptocurrency market. As it turns out, cryptocurrencies exhibiting a greater risk tend to yield higher average returns. The study has been published in International Review of Financial Analysis.
Exploring the Eyes from a Scientific Perspective
The movement of human eyes mirrors the cognitive processes occurring in the brain. Today, neuroscientists can precisely monitor their parameters with millisecond accuracy. Video-oculography holds the key to understanding numerous phenomena related to reading, perception, and language production processes. IQ.HSE interviewed Andriy Myachikov, Leading Research Fellow at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience (ICN), about the method of video-oculography, or, in scientific parlance, eye-tracking, and its applications in psycholinguistic research.
