Ioannis Lianos to Head Greek Antitrust Authority
The academic director of the HSE — Skolkovo Institute for Law and Development, Ioannis Lianos, has been appointed head of Greece’s independent Competition Commission.
In selecting new candidates for the commission, the Greek government sought ‘highly qualified experts in the field of competition law, with extensive experience in regulating and inspecting markets and without any political involvement,’ Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted in a statement.
Ionnis Lianos, who is also a professor of competition law and public policy at University College London, has worked at the HSE — Skolkovo Institute of Law and Development since its founding in 2014. In addition, he played a crucial role in the launch of the BRICS Competition Centre at HSE.
‘I have been working at the HSE – Skolkovo Institute for Law and Development for 5 years, and it has been a fruitful period of my academic and professional life,’ says Professor Lianos.
I believe that we have managed to contribute significantly to the promotion of the BRICS competition law agenda for the global economy together with the HSE colleagues and the experts of the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre
Another result of work overseen by Professor Lianos was the Global Food Value Chains and Competition Law BRICS Report, which was completed jointly by the HSE – Skolkovo Institute for Law and Development and University College London. Professor Lianos and his colleagues have also been engaged in the study of competition policy in the digital age, an issue they spoke about at the VI BRICS International Competition Conference 2019.
